Disconnect

The start of this just started itching at me one day. Just this general vibe and phrase I kept thinking over and over after seeing a flood of nonsensical socio-political posts from idiots of all shades. And for some reason, I decided to write a poem. Now I can’t seem to stop. Yay?

If what you’re sellin’ is a story
’bout how the me inside of me
is the best of me,
not the me that others see,
then tell me
how’s it imperative
that your narrative
is also declarative
that the worst of a different collective
is all you can see?
Cuz to me,
that don’t sound like equality.
Maybe.
Maybe it ain’t us versus them.
Maybe it’s just you versus him.
And him, and him, and him.
Victims of your own stupidity.
All ego, no credibility.
Hypocrisy wrapped up in moral superiority.
And if that’s how it’s going to be?
Back off the mic, Homie.
And let me speak for me.

Disconnect. Steve Arviso.

I’m a poet, and wasn’t aware of it. #politics, everyone!
