Bit of a Rattlesnake.

It’s my 33rd birthday. I wrote this as a bit of self-reflection on where I am, where I came from, and what got me here.

They said reach for the stars,
now my dreams are pure rock and roll.
So I’m sorry if I say things I might regret,
cuz it’s my prerogative
to keep one foot in front of the other
and let it go in one ear and out.
And maybe I ain’t hip enough to be square,
but I’m bad enough for my girl.
Rockin’, blitzkrieg boppin’
from Surf City and that little deuce coupe
to those rains down in Africa.
Every day I’m a man at work,
my steps in sync with the music,
walkin’ hard down this road to recovery,
takin’ the backstreets towards a new edition
nobody knew was about to drop.
My life ain’t some unopened letter to a world,
it’s a laugh, and death’s the punchline.
I’m a kamikaze, so why should I worry
that I can’t stop believing
these words are a six-string on my back.
So if you ain’t gonna beat it,
then shut up, and dance.
